\"\"<\/a> Yet another excellent adventure<\/a>, this year with my youngest brother Bruce. We started at Coot Bay Pond<\/a> and circled clockwise around\u00a0Whitewater Bay<\/a>. The first day was spent mostly paddling up the Joe River<\/strong>, where we saw manatee and dolphins galore. The Joe River Chickee<\/a> faces west and we had an excellent sunset<\/a>. The next day we did a “boomerang<\/strong>” with the tides out to the Gulf and up the Shark River. The hurricane damage to the coastal mangroves<\/a>\u00a0was remarkable. We even saw a Loggerhead Sea Turtle<\/a> swimming toward the shore!<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> After exploring the small streams<\/a> north of the river we camped on the Shark River Chickee<\/a>. The next day we waited for the tide to return and float our boat off the mud<\/a>. We got some reading in, ate lunch and took off about noon. Bruce led us through “The\u00a0Labyrinth<\/a>” \u2014 a complex of creeks and ponds leading back to the big bay. We stopped to rest at the Watson River Chickee<\/a> and kept out of the wind as much as possible on our way up the North River<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a>It was cool with a steady breeze to keep the bugs off so we slept out under the stars<\/a> <\/strong>that night. Outstanding! Had a small problem with my pad, which developed a “tumor” overnight. The sun rose<\/a> in an almost cloudless sky. We continued north<\/a> towards the cut-off between the North and Roberts Rivers<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n

Along the way we saw\u00a0<\/span>bromeliads\u00a0in bloom<\/span><\/a> and a <\/span>pair of Ospreys<\/span><\/a> sharing a fish in a classic nest. From there we turned east into the <\/span>Lane River<\/strong><\/span>\u00a0and did a bit of bushwhacking. Then we proceeded south to <\/span>Hell’s Bay<\/strong><\/span> and our chickee. That night we had both Venus and the crescent Moon<\/a> overhead.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a> The next day dawned<\/a> warmer and more humid. Two dolphins<\/a>\u00a0escorted\u00a0us for twenty minutes as we made our way down the East River<\/strong> and out to the bay. Then it was headwind time until we crossed Coot Bay<\/strong> and got back into the mangroves<\/a>. We finished where we started, the Coot Bay Pond put-in<\/a>.
