These diminutive humans were alive as recently as 20,000 years ago, which makes them <a href=\"http:\/\/humanorigins.si.edu\/evidence\/human-fossils\/species\" target=\"_blank\">contemporary with us<\/a> (H. sapiens) and <a href=\"http:\/\/humanorigins.si.edu\/evidence\/human-fossils\/species\/homo-neanderthalensis\" target=\"_blank\">H.\u00a0neanderthalensis<\/a>. The recently opened <a href=\"http:\/\/humanorigins.si.edu\/\" target=\"_blank\">Hall of Human Origins<\/a> at the <strong>National Museum of Natural History<\/strong> has incredibly <a href=\"http:\/\/humanorigins.si.edu\/exhibit\/gurche\" target=\"_blank\">lifelike models<\/a> by the artist\u00a0<strong>John Gurche<\/strong>, including <a href=\"http:\/\/humanorigins.si.edu\/research\/asian-research\/hobbits\" target=\"_blank\">H. Floresiensis<\/a> shown here. [I&#8217;m not fond of the moniker &#8220;Hobbit&#8221; BTW.
